Pike's Peak 2011: HRE Wheels out in Full Force

June 15th, 2011

Pike's Peak is only a week away and there is big news regarding the top dogs racing to break the 10-minute barrier up the hill. Several of the fastest cars inthe race will be equipped with HRE wheels and two of them are set to do battle in the Unlimited class. Both Rhys Millen and Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima have built incredible race machines to try to top the current fastest time,10:01.408, set by Tajima several years ago.

There is even bigger news surrounding the Millen family, as Rhys's father, Rod Millen, will be piloting the Red Bull Hyundai Formula D Spec Genesis drift car. The car's suspension settings have been changed to work with the transition from tarmac to gravel, but the car is still set up to show off its sliding skills once it hits the dirt. Rod held the record at Pike's Peak for many years, but has not been back to the hill for nearly a decade. His return to one of the oldest and most revered auto races in the world means the father and son will race together for the first time.

The other big news from the RMR team is that Rhys's Rallycross partner, Marcus Dodd, will be taking the latest Hyundai Veloster rally machine out to compete in the open class. Keep an eye out for HRE Wheels on Millen and Monster's Unlimited Class race cars and on Dodd's Rallycross car during this epic race. We will have more updates from the hill soon, so stay tuned.
